Smart for Life

About the Program

The Smart for Life weight loss program is based on eating carbohydrates six times a day and eating one actual meal at dinner. The premise behind this program is that most people who are overweight have hormonal issues that pack on the pounds.

According to the Smart for Life experts, you’ll retrain your body and mind over time to eat several small meals each day in an effort to fuel metabolism, lose weight, and keep it off when you follow their program and eat their food.

Smart for Life has created their own line of cookies, shakes, muffins, soups, cupcakes, and more as part of their program for losing weight. Along with their foods, you will take vitamin supplements. They promise that you’ll lose up to 15 pounds in the first month!

You must submit to an initial physical and continued medical supervision while on the diet. Total calorie intake per day is about 800 calories, which is extremely low and eating only one actual meal a day could be a challenge for some people.

You should not participate in this program if:

You are nursing or are pregnant
Have certain medical conditions – always check with your personal physician first

Foods You Can Eat

You can eat the foods from their product line only for six meals a day. Dinner consists of low-fat, high protein foods. You’re instructed to drink at least 8 non-caloric beverages a day.

Exercise

Given the low daily calorie intake, the physician assigned to you at the Smart for Life clinic will determine a customized fitness regimen for you, if any.

Summary

The Smart for Life program will most likely help you lose weight, but at what cost? The extremely low calorie intake is a concern, even if it’s only for the short term. Exercise is a key component for building strong bones and boosting metabolism, but it isn’t highly recommended on this program.

However, on the positive side, you’re under a physician’s supervision and you’re given the tools you need to maintain a healthy weight for life, even after you are no longer on the program. This could very well be the diet that helps jump start weight loss for many people and helps them to actually keep it off this time.
